The idea for this painting came to me after making several items for Hats for the Homeless. As noted on their website, this organization "grew out of the heart of one young man who cared about those less fortunate. Each year he would gather friends during the Holiday season and together they would roam the streets of New York City, giving hats, scarves, and gloves to the homeless. He died suddenly in 1998. Hats for the Homeless was created in his memory to continue the tradition he started." The weekend before Christmas the giftwrapped items are distributed to the homeless at St. Francis Xavier's Soup Kitchen on West 15th Street in NYC.

The "Art of Giving" art show will be held at the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce in Shelton, CT, from Nov. 14–Dec. 3. The opening reception and presentation of awards will take place on Nov. 14. from 1-5 pm. Thirty percent of the proceeds from the sale of artwork will be used for community efforts by the show's sponsors—the Valley Arts Council and the Valley Philanthropy Council.
